Vanderbilt ACCRE Grid Computing Site Policy

Authentication and Authorization Policies
  • ACCRE is a member of the Open Science Grid (OSG). Grid users must be a member of an OSG Virtual Organization (VO) in order to access ACCRE resources.

  • ACCRE uses GUMS to determine what VO's have access to resources on the ACCRE cluster and what userid's they will be mapped to.

Processing Policies
  • Access to the ACCRE cluster for all Open Science Grid VO's is on a resource-available basis only.

  • All Open Science Grid VOs are allocated a certain PBS fair share.

  • All jobs submitted at ACCRE have a 15 minute wall time limit by default (the maximum wall time you may specify is 3 days). If your job will run longer than 15 minutes, you must use an RSL script to request an appropriate amount of CPU and wall time. If you are unfamiliar with RSL syntax please refer to the Globus toolkit reference page.

  • All jobs submitted at ACCRE have a default memory limit of 400 MB. If your job will need more memory than the default, you must use an RSL script to request an appropriate amount of memory. If you are unfamiliar with RSL syntax please refer to the Globus toolkit reference page.

  • ACCRE will make best effort to not kill any running jobs, with the understanding that some downtime or loss of jobs may be unavoidable due to either unplanned or scheduled downtimes. Once your job is running, ACCRE will not preempt it for a higher priority job.

Storage Policies
  • The /home filesystem where user home directories are located is controlled by quota.  Please limit usage to 10 GB per user.  This filesystem is backed up nightly.

  • The /scratch filesystem is also controlled by quota.  Please limit usage to 10 GB per user.  This filesystem is not backed up.

  • /home and /scratch are mounted on all compute nodes via IBM's General Parallel Filesystem (GPFS).

  • The /tmp directory is also available.  It is located on an internal HD in each node and is not controlled by quota.  It is also not backed up.  Files which have not been accessed for a set period of time are purged automatically.  Grid jobs which use /tmp should do their own cleanup, however.

Support Policies
  • Support for the grid-based usage of this facility is available through the OSG Grid Support Center. Members of all VOs are encouraged to use their own VO support contacts as detailed in the OSG Operations Guide to contact ACCRE through the proper channels.
